CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: “Hindi will develop when Indian languages move forward, and it must not be forgotten that just as people across the country fought colonial slavery together during the national freedom movement, we will be able to enhance the honour of our languages only when all Indian languages work together,” Principal Anju Srivastava said while launching the “Signature in Hindi Campaign” at Hindu College on the occasion of Hindi Day.
She called upon the younger generation to make a beginning by signing in Hindi and to make Hindi the language of their knowledge and science. Students, teachers and staff of the college participated enthusiastically in the campaign.
Vice-Principal Reena Jain said on the occasion that the goal was to conduct all work in the official language Hindi instead of English, and that the college was moving steadily in that direction. She said the college was committed to carrying out all its work in Hindi in compliance with official language directives, and most forms were now available in bilingual format.
Senior Hindi Department teacher Rachna Singh said Hindi’s real development would be possible only by making it a language of knowledge and science, not merely through literary creation.
Earlier, Prof Pallav, in-charge of the Hindi Department, gave information about activities related to the official language at Hindu College. He said several activities were being organised to encourage the younger generation to work in Hindi, which would benefit everyone.
Vimalendu Tirthankar told students that according to the 2011 Census, 43 percent of people in the country describe Hindi as their mother tongue. If those who mention Hindi as their second or third language are included, the figure rises to 57 percent. Tirthankar said such a large number showed that work on Hindi now needed to be taken up with greater seriousness.
Rupali Sinha, convener of the Signature in Hindi Campaign, said students were very enthusiastic about a beginning such as signing in Hindi. Sahil Bhardwaj and Anurag of the Hindi Sahitya Sabha coordinated the campaign.
Treasurer Prof Varunendra Rawat, Ananya Barua, Ankur Shandilya and several teachers participated in the event. At the end, college estate officer Anuj Gupta expressed gratitude to everyone.
