CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav Highlights Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028 Preparations to Transform Ujjain into a Global Religious Hub
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the Simhastha Mahakumbh as a remarkable social confluence that shapes societal direction. Historically, people would attend the Kumbh Mela, align with its teachings, and work towards societal transformation. While traditions have evolved over time, it remains crucial to understand the importance of our roots and values. Preparations for the 2028 Simhastha in the sacred city of Ujjain have already begun. Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions Kumbh as more than a festival—a model of exemplary management offering lessons in tradition and innovation for the world to adopt as a case study.
Government Focused on Simhastha 2028 Preparations
Under CM Yadav’s leadership, the state government is dedicated to preparations for Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028, with infrastructure development and various projects already underway. The CM pledged to ensure that pilgrims bathe in the pristine waters of the Kshipra River during the event. Projects like Sewerkhedi-Silarkhedi, Kanha Closed Duct, and Hariakhedi are being executed to maintain a perennial flow of clean water in the Kshipra River, ensuring both ecological balance and sufficient drinking water for Ujjain.
Bi-Weekly Review of Projects
CM Yadav has mandated that all department-related works be completed within stipulated timelines and reviewed every fortnight. Senior officials are actively monitoring the progress, ensuring that tenders for construction and upgrades in Ujjain and Indore are finalized by March 2025 and all infrastructure projects are completed by September 2025.
Improved Transportation and Connectivity
Special plans for seamless transportation during the Simhastha event include establishing a dedicated cell to coordinate with railway authorities and developing alternate routes to manage traffic efficiently. The state government has also approved a ₹2,312 crore road upgradation project to connect Ujjain and Indore, facilitating smoother travel for pilgrims.
Permanent Infrastructure Development
In the first cabinet meeting regarding Simhastha preparations, ₹5,955 crore was sanctioned for 19 projects focusing on water supply systems, sewage lines, power grids, and other essential facilities. With a total fair area of 3,360.6 hectares, 2,344.11 hectares will be allocated for infrastructure development. Permanent facilities like roads, water supply, sewage systems, electricity, and gardens are being planned to benefit Ujjain beyond the event.
Learning from Prayagraj and Haridwar
To manage the expected influx of over 150 million devotees, the state government will study the arrangements at Prayagraj and Haridwar Kumbh events. Drone surveys and artificial intelligence will be employed for crowd and traffic management. A conference with organizations and startups involved in Prayagraj Mahakumbh will also be hosted in Ujjain.
CM Yadav envisions Ujjain and Indore as the central hubs for Simhastha 2028, with priority given to enhancing transportation, water supply, sewage systems, and other essential amenities. Coordination among departments will ensure the event’s success, promoting cleanliness, greenery, and comprehensive development in Ujjain, Indore, and Dewas districts.
