CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Congress Leaders Submit Memorandum to Make Sironj a District Vinod Sen, Secretary of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, along with other Congress leaders, submitted a memorandum to the Vidisha District Collector demanding the creation of Sironj as a district. The memorandum highlighted Sironj’s historical, cultural, and administrative significance, emphasizing the need to reinstate its district status. Sironj was previously a district before being incorporated into Madhya Pradesh from Rajasthan on November 1, 1956. The memorandum also noted that the last collector of Sironj was Bejnath Pancholi.
Geographical and Administrative Challenges
Sironj is located 85 kilometers from Vidisha district headquarters, while the farthest village in the Sironj Assembly constituency, Unarsi Kala, is 160 kilometers away. This distance creates significant difficulties for residents in accessing administrative services. Poor citizens are often deprived of economic justice and government schemes. The memorandum stated that making Sironj a district would address these challenges effectively.
Historical and Cultural Significance
Sironj’s history dates back to the 18th century when Sir George Everest established an observatory here for the Great Trigonometric Survey. This site remains a symbol of Sironj’s historical heritage. Additionally, Sironj was home to a mint that produced coins engraved with its name, showcasing its economic and cultural importance. Sironj also holds religious and trade significance.
Administrative and Educational Infrastructure
Sironj already has significant infrastructure in place:
Two Additional District and Sessions Courts
Two Civil Courts
Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Hospital with 100-bed capacity
It also hosts a university, private colleges, a polytechnic, and ITI institutions, along with an Agricultural Science Center, a B-Grade Agricultural Produce Market, and power department facilities. These features make Sironj well-equipped to function as a district headquarters.
Proposal for District Formation
The memorandum proposed merging the following areas to form Sironj district:
Sironj
Lateri
Kurwai
Patharia (Sub-Tehsil)
Anandpur (Sub-Tehsil)
Satpada Hat
Deepnakheda
These regions are geographically and economically aligned with Sironj, making them suitable for district formation.
Previous Efforts and Current Demand
In 2012-13, the Revenue Department requested a proposal from the Vidisha Collector for making Sironj a district, which was submitted on June 1, 2013. However, the proposal remains under consideration. Over the past 11 years, the population of these tehsils has doubled, further strengthening the case for this demand.
Congress Leaders’ Role
Senior Congress leaders, including Vinod Sen, Kesar Khan, Mohit Raghuvanshi, Suresh Yadav, Irshad Gauri, Arun Awasthi, and Ankit Bhargava, were part of the delegation that submitted the memorandum. They highlighted the difficulties faced by Sironj’s residents and urged the government to take immediate action on this issue.
Conclusion
Sironj’s historical, geographical, and administrative significance makes it a strong candidate for district status. Congress leaders have appealed for swift action to address the hardships of Sironj’s residents and ensure they receive the benefits of government schemes and administrative services.
