CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: CHENNAI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating allegations in the Gem Granites chairman R. Veeramani case is expected to file a chargesheet in the first case within three weeks, the Madras High Court was informed on October 26, 2026.
State Public Prosecutor R. John Sathyan told Justice V. Lakshminarayanan that the investigation was progressing and the chargesheet was nearly ready. The court adjourned two related writ petitions to November 12, 2026, for further consideration.
The petitions, filed by journalist R. Varaahi and advocate M.L. Ravi, seek to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing concerns about the independence of the state-led probe. The SIT submitted a status report outlining the progress of its investigation. The court has previously allowed the special team additional time to investigate the allegations.
The case came to light in October 2025, when an NGO volunteer reportedly submitted a pen drive to Chennai police containing a video allegedly showing the sexual assault of a minor. A special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act rejected an earlier police closure report and ordered further investigation. Veeramani and several associates have been arrested in connection with cases linked to the allegations. The charges remain subject to judicial proceedings and have not been established as proven facts.
Investigators are also examining allegations of financial irregularities and possible interference in the earlier handling of the case. The SIT is expected to submit further findings as its inquiry progresses.
The next hearing on November 12 will provide an opportunity for the High Court to review the investigation’s status and consider the pending petitions seeking a transfer of the probe.
