CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The West Bengal government has constituted a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the violence that broke out at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata on September 27. The SIT is headed by Kolkata Police Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Kunal Agarwal and has been directed to submit its first report to the state government on October 1.
The violence occurred during a programme organised on the SRFTI campus by the Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP), an RSS-linked organisation. Clashes reportedly broke out between students and ABGP members, with several people sustaining injuries. Both sides have made allegations regarding the circumstances leading to the confrontation.
The SIT includes senior officers from the Kolkata Police and the Criminal Investigation Department. The team is examining the cases registered in connection with the incident and can bring in additional personnel if required.
Investigators have visited the campus, spoken to students and faculty members and collected CCTV footage. The team has also reconstructed the sequence of events at locations including the main entrance, auditorium and library. Police officials said statements would be compared with available footage and other evidence.
Four cases have been reported at Panchasayar police station in connection with the clash, according to the latest police account. The complaints include allegations involving students, organisers and police personnel. These allegations remain subject to investigation and do not by themselves establish responsibility.
The SIT's first report is expected to provide an initial assessment of the incident, the sequence of events and the evidence collected so far. The investigation comes as authorities seek to restore normal academic activity at the institute following the campus violence.
