CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A six-day foundation course for the MBBS 2024 batch was inaugurated at AIIMS Bhopal today. The course aims to prepare new students for medical education and provide them with guidance. It will run until September 7, with a total of 122 students admitted this year. During the inauguration, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Ajay Singh, urged students to adopt a receptive and open-minded approach to learning. He encouraged them to look for learning opportunities in every aspect around them, including interactions with patients.
He said, ‘A patient can also teach you valuable lessons,’ and emphasized the need for empathy in the medical profession. Prof. Singh further stated that teachers should be role models for their students, imparting not only academic knowledge but also ethical and professional values. He said, ‘Learning is a lifelong process,’ and appealed to students to maintain discipline, follow rules, and not hesitate to seek help in times of difficulty. He also stressed the importance of appropriate attire, which helps maintain the dignity and decorum expected of future health professionals.
At the beginning of the program, Vaishali Wandeskar, Head of the Center for Medical Education and Training (CMET), welcomed the students and elaborated on the main objectives of the foundation course, including hospital and library tours, stress management sessions, student welfare programs, communication skills workshops, and other essential training modules. These activities are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in their medical education.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Dean (Academic), various department heads (HODs), and other faculty members. The foundation course is part of AIIMS Bhopal’s ongoing efforts to not only provide medical knowledge but also to develop empathy, discipline, and lifelong learning values among its students. This program is designed to help students smoothly transition into the challenging environment of medical education and ultimately excel in the medical profession.”
