In our culture, subjects like agriculture, handicrafts, and folk dances do not have specific scriptures; they have evolved within the oral tradition itself. India trusts in memory. Our tradition of oral literature has been rich. The first treatise of Ayurveda mentions that our sages communicated with trees, understood their qualities, and used them as medicine.
Director Tiwari was addressing the inaugural session of a two-week Capacity Building Program for the Faculty of Young Social Sciences, organized by Dattopant Thengdi Research Institute in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research. This two-week program is being attended by 33 faculty participants from across the country.
The chief speaker, Director Tiwari, emphasized that we must free ourselves from colonial mentalities and study subjects from an Indian perspective. The chief guest of the session, Higher Education Commissioner Mr. Nishant Varwade, highlighted the need for capacity-building programs to make higher education world-class. He stressed the importance of identifying one’s expertise and emphasized the need for study in social sciences. Director of NITTTR, Chandracharu Tripathi, described the program as an extremely useful initiative.
The President of the Institute, Ashok Kumar Pandey, clarified the objective of education, stating that we need to shift the Europe-centered education system to an India-centered one. There should be a focus on both career and character. The Director of the Institute, Mukesh Kumar Mishra, shed light on the background and objectives of the Capacity Building Program. Subsequently, economist Prof. VK Malhotra explained the various dimensions of social science research, highlighting the need for an increase in research in India. He mentioned that the central government has devised a roadmap through the National Research Foundation to promote research. In the first technical session of the program, the Director of the National Museum of Mankind, Amitabh Pandey, gave a technical lecture on the environment and communities.
