CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal / Mumbai : The controversy surrounding the alleged slapping incident involving a state minister took a new twist on Friday after police filed a non-cognizable (NC) complaint in the case, following contradictory statements from the Chief Minister and the minister himself.
The so-called “Slapgate” incident reportedly occurred during a high-level government event earlier this week. Initial reports alleged that the minister in question was assaulted by a fellow party member or official. However, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai downplayed the incident, publicly contradicting the minister’s version and calling it a “misunderstanding blown out of proportion.”
Despite the Chief Minister’s remarks, police officials confirmed that an NC complaint has been registered based on a written complaint received from the minister’s office. “We have filed a non-cognizable offense report, which will be examined further before any formal investigation is initiated,” said a senior police official.
The minister, who initially claimed to have been physically assaulted, has not made any further public statements after the Chief Minister’s clarification. The political opposition has seized upon the confusion, demanding a transparent inquiry into the matter and accusing the ruling party of internal discord.
The incident, now dubbed “Slapgate,” has triggered a media frenzy and political embarrassment for the government. Sources suggest party leadership is trying to resolve the matter internally to avoid further damage to its public image.
Further developments are awaited as the police decide on the next steps.
