CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : At Barkatullah University, Bhopal, a two-day workshop on “Inclusion of Indian Knowledge Traditions in the Sociology Curriculum” under the National Education Policy 2020 was inaugurated today with a ceremonial lamp lighting. The workshop is being organized under the aegis of the Department of Higher Education, Madhya Pradesh. The program was presided over by Neeraj Gaur, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University. The chief guest was Prof. Dhirendra Shukla (M.P. Department of Higher Education). On this occasion, subject expert Sunita Joshi and Neeraj Gaur, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Director of BUIT, were also on the dais.
The program was conducted and the welcome address was delivered by Ruchi Ghosh Dastidar, Head of the Sociology Department, who said, “Youth should be empowered; today we are all committed to nation-building. Higher education gives wings to dreams.”
Chief Guest Dhirendra Shukla, in his address, highlighted the background and process of the new education policy, noting that it was implemented in 2021 under the leadership of the then Chief Minister and Education Minister. He said, “Teachers must maintain the energy and enthusiasm of youth until retirement; only then can holistic development of students be achieved.” He urged teachers to finalize the curriculum and upload it on the portal by 31 October so that it could be implemented on time for the 2026–27 session.
Subject expert Prof. Sunita Joshi stated that the sociology subject is deeply connected with Indian knowledge traditions, and the National Education Policy emphasizes holistic development and activity-based learning in the curriculum. Neeraj Gaur, Acting Vice-Chancellor, said that the new curriculum should function like a joint family, where every unit contributes to balanced and quality development of the students.
Other distinguished guests included professors and scholars from the university and various institutions, prominently: Prof. Harneet Cheema, Prof. Madhuvilata Dubey, Prof. Mahesh Shukla, Prof. Shailja Dubey, Prof. Kumresh S. Kashyap, Prof. Anita Dhurve, Dr. Archana Sharma, Dr. Ranjana Srivastava, Dr. H.M. Mishra, Dr. Vasudev Jadon, Dr. Tayyiba Khatun, Dr. Swati Shukla, Dr. Anila Mitra, and Dr. Kalawati Korine, whose presence and support contributed to the success of the workshop.
On the first day, after keynote addresses, detailed discussions were held on the second- and third-year undergraduate courses. On the second day (18 September), discussions and collective presentations on the third- and fourth-semester postgraduate courses will be conducted. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Kumresh Kashyap.
This workshop aims to ensure that the new sociology curriculum, integrating Indian knowledge traditions, provides students with holistic, relevant, and skill-based education, enabling them to play an empowered role in society and nation-building.
