CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The two-day National Workshop on Sociology concluded successfully at Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University. The workshop focused on the theme, “Social Sciences for India, by India,” with a focus on incorporating Indian knowledge traditions into sociology under the framework of the New Education Policy 2020. Eminent sociologists and academicians from across the country engaged in in-depth discussions, resulting in significant outcomes that are expected to be reflected in curriculum reforms soon.

The workshop was presided over by Prof. Sanjay Tiwari, Vice-Chancellor of Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University, with the active participation of Nitin Sangle, Deputy Registrar of the university. The concluding session featured a summary of discussions and key takeaways presented by P.V. Krishna Bhatt, who emphasized the urgent need to expand the scope of Indian social sciences and incorporate Indian knowledge systems into the curriculum.

He stated, “We have relied too much on Western methods; now is the time to integrate Indian civilization and our thoughts into the curriculum. We must shed the lens of the West and adopt the spirituality inherent in Indian traditions.”

Contributions and Suggestions

The participating academicians shared insights and suggestions on curriculum reforms, emphasizing the need to instill Indian knowledge traditions in students from an early age. One of the participants, Santosh Bhadauria, summarized the workshop, emphasizing the importance of understanding the objectives of Indian knowledge systems before implementation. He proposed:

Familiarity with three key languages to understand Indian traditions.

Introducing Indian texts and concepts into children’s education from a young age.

Shifting focus from Western theories to Indian subjects for research and study.

Emphasizing the preservation of nature to protect the environment.

Conclusion

The workshop concluded with certificates being distributed to all participating scholars. Nitin Sangle, Deputy Registrar, delivered the vote of thanks, while Anita Kaushal, Director of the university, moderated the event. A large number of participants and members of the Bhoj University community attended the workshop, underscoring its significance in shaping the future of Indian sociology under the New Education Policy.
