CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal : The Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhopal (a regional center of the National Museum of Natural History, New Delhi), organized a face painting activity for participants of the Summer Nature Study Program – Harit Shavak, and a study tour to the Solid Waste Management Center for participants of Harit Kishore.

During the face painting session, independent artist Vivek Kumar Verma taught participants how to paint various creatures such as tigers, butterflies, sharks, fish, and giraffes on their faces. The children enthusiastically painted these themselves. A total of 19 participants took part in this activity. Scientist-C and Program Coordinator of the museum, Manik Lal Gupta, provided detailed insights into the behavior of these wild animals, their role in nature, and discussed the importance of their conservation and their role in ecosystems.

For the Harit Kishore participants, a study tour was organized to the Solid Waste Management Center located at Danapani (Ishwar Nagar), operated by the Municipal Corporation of Bhopal. During this tour, Ms. Simran Raghuvanshi, Assistant In-Charge of the Recycling Hub, explained the management of wet and dry waste. The process mainly involves separating waste into treatment streams such as plant-based organic waste and plastic waste. Organic waste is sent for composting, and inorganic waste is sent for recycling. Items like plastic, glass, metals, and thermocol are extracted from the inorganic waste and processed for recycling.

Coconuts are processed using specialized machinery to produce items like rope, bird nests, and cocopeat. The center also has a thermocol plant, where thermocol is transformed into compact blocks used in making photo frames and other products. Through this tour, children witnessed how communities can move toward becoming waste-free.
