CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party has increased its focus on Dalit voters. As part of this strategy, the SP is set to begin its Dalit Mahasammelan for western Uttar Pradesh from Agra on November 15. Party president Akhilesh Yadav will attend the conference as the chief guest.
The choice of Agra for the conference is also being seen as politically significant. Dalits, especially Jatav voters, have a strong presence in western Uttar Pradesh. Agra has long been viewed as a region influenced by Ambedkarite and Bahujan politics. In this context, the SP wants to send a message from here that it is strengthening its political reach among the Dalit community.
The SP’s strategy is not limited to Dalit votes alone. Akhilesh Yadav is trying to strengthen his PDA formula – Backward classes, Dalits and Minorities. The party is preparing to expand its outreach in Dalit localities and reserved Assembly seats across the state through programmes such as the “Save Constitution PDA Jan Panchayat”.
The initiative comes at a time when political churn is also continuing within the Bahujan Samaj Party. The SP is trying to increase its acceptability among Dalit voters and build a strong social coalition against the BJP in the 2027 elections.
