CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: ‘SP has not really won’: Minister Dayashankar Singh’s statement on MLC results
Lucknow. Political statements have intensified in Uttar Pradesh over the results of the Legislative Council elections. State government minister Dayashankar Singh questioned the Samajwadi Party’s victory, saying the SP had not really won and that it had almost the same number of seats as it already held. He also reacted to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s performance and acknowledged that the party could have done better.
‘BJP won six seats, we could have done better’
Dayashankar Singh said the BJP won six seats in the Legislative Council elections. He said the party takes every election seriously and that any shortcomings would be reviewed. According to the minister, the BJP should have performed better in the election.
Referring to the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teachers’ constituency, he said where did the Samajwadi Party stand there, as it slipped to third or fourth position. His remarks raised questions over the SP’s electoral performance.
Response to SP’s rigging allegations
The Samajwadi Party had alleged rigging in the counting of votes for the Gorakhpur-Faizabad teachers’ seat. Responding to this, Dayashankar Singh said the SP had already prepared to allege rigging in the event of defeat. He also asked the party to accept the impartiality of the Election Commission. This is the minister’s political response; the official response of the authorities concerned and available evidence would be important to verify the rigging allegations.
Attack on Congress-SP alliance
The minister also commented on the political relations between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party. He said the Congress had deviated from its principles and that the SP was also moving away from its core principles. Dayashankar Singh recalled that the Samajwadi Party was founded against the backdrop of opposition to the Congress, while the two parties were now entering into political understandings.
After the Legislative Council election results, allegations and counter-allegations continue between the BJP and opposition parties. Amid these statements, all parties are making different claims about their performance.
