CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Bhopal: A special public awareness campaign is being conducted in the Bhopal Division of West Central Railway on the occasion of International Level Crossing Awareness Day, and will continue till June 12, 2026. The campaign aims to make road and rail users aware of safe behaviour at railway level crossings and help prevent accidents.
On the occasion of International Level Crossing Awareness Day, special programmes were organised at various level crossings in the division. Artists from the Cultural Academy of the Bhopal Division reached out to road users near Gate Nos. 114 and 115 close to Sant Hirdaram Nagar railway station and attempted to spread awareness through street plays. Pamphlets were also distributed to passers-by and vehicle drivers at the level crossing, providing important information related to rail safety. Senior Divisional Safety Officer Vijay Shankar Gautam, along with officers and employees of the Safety Department, was present during the programme.
Safety awareness programmes are being organised at all 85 level crossings in the division, including the Bina-Bhopal-Itarsi section, the Bina-Guna-Gwalior section and the Guna-Maksi section of the Bhopal Division. During the campaign, railway officers and employees are informing road users about the precautions to be taken while crossing level gates.

During the campaign, people are being given the following important messages: estimating the speed of a vehicle or a train is difficult, so always remain cautious; do not attempt to cross a closed or closing level crossing gate; a train can come from either direction, so move ahead only after looking both ways; before crossing the railway track, switch off the engine and wait so that the sound of an approaching train can be heard; when the gate is closed, stop the vehicle at a safe distance from the gate and move ahead only after it opens; and do not try to cross a level gate in haste.
Under the campaign, road users are also being made aware through public outreach vehicles, awareness pamphlets, public announcement systems and audio-video messages. In addition, rail safety messages are also being widely disseminated through social media platforms.
The Bhopal Division is also prioritising the construction of railway overbridges and underbridges at highly busy level crossings so that dependence on level crossings can be reduced in the future and both rail and road traffic can become safer and smoother.
