CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Under an important academic initiative, the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication (MCU) has launched the MCU Rekhi Center of Excellence for the Science of Happiness with the support of the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness. As part of this initiative, a new credit-based open elective course has been introduced. Students enthusiastically participated in a special session of this course today. The class was conducted by Shrihari Krishna and Ritu Sharma.

This initiative has been undertaken under an academic MoU signed between the university and the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness. The field of journalism is extremely challenging—constantly changing circumstances, time pressure, reporting on sensitive events, and the mental stress that often accompanies such work. In such a scenario, this course helps students understand how to face these challenges with a balanced, aware, and resilient mindset.

In fact, happiness and mental balance are skills that can be learned. Everyone desires success in life, but transforming desire into reality requires understanding and practice. During the session, students expressed curiosity and discussed ways to cope with decision fatigue, improve their study methods, and regulate their emotions.

The course on the Science of Happiness is based on positive psychology, mindfulness, and emotional balance. It also draws on neuroscience to explain that the human brain is adaptable and capable of change. Through meditation, consistent practice, and positive emotions, we can influence the functioning of our brain. This process is known as Neuroplasticity. In other words, through conscious thinking, focused attention, and behavioral practice, we can rewire our brain and refine our personality.

A balanced and cheerful personality can work with clarity, sensitivity, and compassion in any field, even under highly stressful circumstances. Undoubtedly, this course will inspire students to become not only better professionals but also more aware, sensitive, and emotionally balanced individuals.
