Ghaziabad: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the sports field is a living symbol of the country’s diversity and unity. Players from different languages, attire and cultures compete together here. The sports field presents a picture of Mini India, strengthening the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. Sports are not only a medium to win medals but also an important means of developing discipline, cooperation, leadership and a sense of nationhood.
The Chief Minister was speaking on Wednesday at the closing programme of Vidya Bharati’s 37th All India Sports Festival at the Ghaziabad Police Line Parade Ground. On the occasion, he honoured players who performed outstandingly in various competitions and encouraged all participants. More than 731 students from different regions of the country took part in the competition.
Dhami told the players that victory gives them the enthusiasm to move ahead, while defeat teaches them to identify their shortcomings and perform better. He called for regular practice, setting big goals, and giving importance to sports and values along with studies. Citing the example of Nishad Kumar, who won a silver medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024, he said major achievements can be attained through determination and continuous hard work.
The Chief Minister praised Vidya Bharati’s efforts based on education and values. He said initiatives such as Khelo India and Fit India have promoted a sports culture in the country. The Uttarakhand government is also expanding sports facilities and training resources so that talent from remote areas can get opportunities to move forward.
At the end of the programme, Dhami congratulated the winning players and appreciated the teachers, coaches and office-bearers associated with the event.
