CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, during his three-day visit to Sri Lanka, stressed further strengthening defence and maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. In Colombo, he said Sri Lanka’s strategic role in the Indian Ocean region is extremely important and that India will continue to support it as a trusted partner in building defence capability.
During Rajnath Singh’s visit, the two countries signed three agreements related to defence cooperation. These focus on promoting cooperation in training, institutional exchanges and the modernisation of defence equipment. India also announced assistance in setting up an artificial intelligence lab to enhance the capabilities of the Sri Lankan Army. The facility will be useful in areas such as data analytics, surveillance, logistics and decision-making.
Rajnath Singh also took part in a programme held on Indian Navy warship INS Udaygiri. India believes maritime security, stability and mutual cooperation in the Indian Ocean are in the shared interest of both countries. Sri Lanka has also appreciated India’s support in training, capacity building and assistance during times of crisis.
