CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has responded sharply to Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s recent remarks in the Assembly about his arrest during the Emergency. Stalin said his jawbones were indeed broken during a brutal police assault in prison and recalled the difficult conditions he and other DMK leaders faced during that period.
In a video shared on social media, Stalin described his arrest under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act and said he was lodged with other detainees in a small room under extremely poor conditions. He alleged that police personnel beat prisoners with lathis and kicked them during the night, preventing them from sleeping. Stalin also recalled the death of DMK MP Chittibabu, whom he said died after suffering brutal treatment in jail.
Stalin criticised Vijay over a gesture made during the Assembly proceedings while referring to his past injuries. He said the incident was part of recorded history and advised Vijay to maintain the dignity expected from a Chief Minister. Stalin also accused him of treating the Assembly like a platform for political performances and social-media videos.
The exchange has added another sharp dimension to the growing political confrontation between the DMK and Vijay-led TVK in Tamil Nadu, with the Emergency-era history of the DMK once again becoming a major point of political debate.
