CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: CHENNAI: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has questioned the political stability of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government, saying it may not complete even six months in office. His remarks have intensified the political confrontation between the opposition DMK and the government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Speaking at a family wedding function in Chennai on Sunday, October 25, Stalin criticised the government over alleged administrative shortcomings, rising prices, power cuts and concerns about law and order. He also raised allegations regarding crimes against women and children, murders and drug-related activities, questioning the administration’s handling of public safety.
Stalin recalled that the DMK had initially said it would refrain from criticising the new government for six months after it assumed office. However, he argued that developments since then had prompted the party to reassess that position. He urged DMK cadres to work towards ending the TVK government’s tenure.
The DMK leader also questioned the effectiveness of the government’s special initiatives aimed at women’s safety and criticised its response to emerging law-and-order concerns.
Stalin’s comments come amid an increasingly adversarial political environment in Tamil Nadu, where opposition parties have raised questions about the government’s stability and dependence on its political support base. His prediction, however, represents the DMK leader’s political assessment and does not establish that the government will fall.
The TVK government’s future will depend on political developments, legislative support and its ability to address the challenges facing the state.
