CNN Central News and Network – ITDC India Epress / ITDC News Bhopal: Govardhan Puja is a sacred and auspicious occasion. Shepherds are adorning their cattle, performing puja and offering reverence. However, across the state, there are thousands of cattle that have been left helpless on the roads. They are neither receiving fodder nor do they have access to shelters. Don’t the BJP leaders, who garner votes in elections under the name of cows, care about these cattle?

On the holy occasion of Govardhan Puja, a media report surfaced in the public domain today, which authentically stated that in your Ujjain district, herds of cattle are sitting in groups on the roads. On the Ujjain-Agar Road, four locations have virtually turned the roads into cattle shelters. How long have these cattle been here? Who owns them? No one has the answers!

To investigate this issue on the ground, a journey was made on National Highway 552! At the new bus stand in Ghattia at 5:15 PM, buses were seen boarding and alighting passengers on one side, while over 130 cattle were sitting haphazardly on the other side. Subsequently, around 5:35 PM, approximately 120 cattle were seen sitting like dividers on the road connecting Ghaunsala to Agar-Mahidpur. At 5:50 PM, cattle were seen sitting like dividers in Palakhedi! On the way back around 6 PM, cattle were spotted on the main road in Nipania Goyal.

Since these conditions pertain to your home district and its surrounding areas, I am specifically highlighting them! I also want to mention that similar situations exist in many other districts of Madhya Pradesh! The increasing number of stray cattle on roads and in agricultural areas of Madhya Pradesh is causing several serious problems.

There are approximately 850,000 stray cattle in the state, which are becoming the main cause of accidents and traffic jams. Recently, the Jabalpur High Court has directed the state government to take concrete steps to control accidents related to stray cattle on the roads, as these incidents have resulted in the loss of many lives and are disrupting traffic. Numerous accidents have occurred due to cattle standing on the roads. These have led to the deaths of both vehicle drivers and cattle.

Mohan Bhaiya, this also adversely affects agriculture. Farmers state that cattle enter their fields and destroy crops, causing nearly 30-40% crop loss. Many farmers are now deciding to grow only one crop instead of multiple crops and are forced to guard their fields overnight.

The state government remains negligent in tackling this problem! You always stay ahead in the media headlines by performing cow service through photos and videos, but in the ground reality, cattle in Madhya Pradesh are in serious danger! I urge you to take immediate and long-term concrete measures to address this critical situation.
