CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A state-level consultation was organized by the Disaster Management Institute (DMI), Government of Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with UN Women India, in Bhopal. The objective of the program was to integrate gender sensitivity into Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) planning. The consultation saw participation from representatives of various state departments, civil society organizations, and United Nations agencies.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Sudhir Dwivedi, Joint Director of DMI. Director George V. Joseph shared the DRR framework, while Director Ashish Bhargav, IAS, Executive Director of DMI, emphasized departmental coordination and gender integration in his keynote speech.
Special speakers included Anil Gulati (Director, UNICEF) and Jayatri Ray (Director, UN Women), who highlighted the importance of safety and leadership of women and children. The technical sessions featured the disaster profile of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha’s community-based DRR model.
Discussions were held by four working groups focusing on disaster preparedness, response, mitigation, and rehabilitation, with special emphasis on women’s participation, gender-disaggregated data, and inclusive early warning systems.
The consultation concluded with a shared commitment: “When one woman is affected, the whole family is affected.”
