CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A two-day State-Level Women’s Kabaddi Tournament was organized under the auspices of Government Maharani Laxmibai Girls Postgraduate Autonomous College, Bhopal. On the first day, the inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Shalini Dixit, Additional D.C.P., Sarita Vidhoria (Mrs. MP 2024), and Neelima Saraf, Police Inspector and international powerlifting athlete. Teams from 11 divisions/universities across the state participated, including Jabalpur, Rewa, Indore, Gwalior, Chhindwara, Ujjain, Sagar, Khargone, Chhatarpur, and the host, Bhopal.
At the closing ceremony, Bhagwandas Sabnani, BJP State General Secretary and MLA, attended as the Chief Guest and awarded trophies to the winner and runner-up teams. Mr. Sabnani expressed that sports not only keep the body fit but also the mind, and shared pride in Indian athletes who have showcased the national flag on international platforms. He praised the Khelo India initiative by the Honorable Prime Minister, which has encouraged many young people to engage in sports and build their futures. Recalling his own experience of playing kabaddi in association branches, he highlighted the increased priority sports news receives in major newspapers today, reflecting its importance.
Dr. Ajay Narang, President of Public Participation, attended as a special guest, while the college’s Principal Director, Ajay Agarwal, presided over the program, welcoming all the guests. Semi-final and final matches were held on the second day, with the first semi-final played between Jabalpur and Indore, in which Indore won with 35 points. The second semi-final was played between Chhindwara and Bhopal, where Bhopal emerged victorious with 14 points.
The final match took place between Indore and Bhopal. Director Sabnani congratulated the winning team, Indore, and the runner-up, Bhopal, and presented trophies to Geeta from Indore as Best Raider, Muskan Sharma from Indore as Best Catcher, and Sharmila from Bhopal as All-Rounder. Approximately 200 players from the college and Bhopal, along with members of the organizing committee and judges, attended the event. The program was conducted by Madhubala Verma Soni, and a vote of thanks was given by Additional Organization Secretary Grace S. Singh.
