New Delhi. There is relief from several states for candidates preparing for government jobs. In 2026, some states, including Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana and Chhattisgarh, increased the maximum age limit for various government recruitments. However, the change does not apply uniformly to all posts and all categories.
In Andhra Pradesh, the maximum age limit for direct recruitment to non-uniformed government services has been increased from 34 to 44 years. This relaxation applies to the relevant recruitments to be held until September 30, 2027. Separate rules apply for uniformed services.
In West Bengal, the maximum age limit has been fixed at 41 years for Group-A posts, 44 years for Group-B, and 45 years for Group-C and Group-D. This amendment came into effect in May 2026.
In Telangana, the upper age limit for direct recruitment has been increased from 34 to 44 years. This relaxation has been granted for one year. In Chhattisgarh, a decision has been taken to raise the maximum age limit for several government services from 38 to 45 years. However, some services, such as the police department, are outside this arrangement.
The change may primarily benefit candidates who had crossed the earlier prescribed age limit but meet the educational qualifications and other eligibility conditions. Before applying, candidates should check the age limit and relaxation conditions in the official notification for the relevant recruitment.
