CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: On the occasion of World Mental Health Week, BMHRC organized a panel discussion on how to manage workplace stress. “Officials in key positions at institutions have more responsibilities and less time. Managing time and completing tasks on schedule can be very challenging, but this challenge can be managed. I have established some personal rules. I always carry a diary with me, and I write down all the tasks that need to be completed. I don’t leave any work pending. I leave the office only after completing all the files,” said Dr. Manisha Srivastava, Acting Director of BMHRC, during the panel discussion on managing workplace stress at BMHRC. The event was organized by the Psychiatry Department of BMHRC as part of World Mental Health Week.
The panel discussion included Dr. Krishna Jain, Chief Medical Officer at the Indian Institute of Science and Environment Research (IISER); Dr. Sandeep Sorte, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at BMHRC; Dr. Sarika Katiyar, Head of the Emergency Medicine Department; Sheeba Rani Kalesh, Nursing Superintendent; and Dr. Yug, President of the Junior Doctors Association.
Dr. Srivastava emphasized that friends are very helpful in managing stress, so having good friends is essential. At the workplace, everyone should be respected, whether they are seniors or juniors. Dr. Krishna Jain mentioned that groupism is a significant cause of stress in the workplace. Dr. Sandeep Sorte shared that as a neurosurgeon, one of the most challenging tasks is satisfying patients and their families. They often expect surgeries to happen quickly after admission, but in neurosurgery, this is not always possible. Sometimes, situations arise that cannot be fixed, and the only way to manage the resulting stress is by accepting the circumstances. Dr. Sarika Katiyar stated that she enjoys academic work, and whenever she engages in academic tasks at the office, her stress disappears. Dr. Yug added that he practices meditation before coming to the hospital each morning, which helps in reducing stress.
During the event, a meditation session was also conducted, and nursing college students performed a play on the topic of mental health at the workplace.
