CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: Strict measures were seen in the name of security checks at examination centres during the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) in Uttar Pradesh. Girls who arrived to take the examination had to untie their hair as part of the checking process, while at several centres candidates were even made to remove their socks. Handkerchiefs were also not allowed inside the examination centres. Because of these arrangements, candidates faced several kinds of difficulties before the examination.

Before entry at the examination centres, candidates were searched thoroughly. Under the security arrangements, clothes and other items were checked so that the use of any kind of unfair means in the examination could be prevented. However, resentment was also seen among candidates over actions such as making girls untie their hair and asking candidates to remove socks during the checking process. Meanwhile, in view of the examination arrangements and administrative preparations, a decision was taken to keep schools up to Class 12 closed in 60 districts of the state. The stated objective was to reduce crowding and traffic-related problems around examination centres and to ensure that the examination was conducted in an orderly manner.

The administration made necessary arrangements to maintain security and discipline at the examination centres. In view of the presence of a large number of candidates, special attention was given to the entry arrangements. During the examination, candidates were instructed to follow the prescribed rules.
