To control the severe pollution levels, the government has decided to impose heavy fines on stubble burning, aiming to improve air quality.

Strict Penalties to Control Pollution

The government has now increased the fines for stubble burning. Under the new rules:

A fine of ₹30,000 will be imposed for stubble burning on land exceeding 5 acres.

For land between 2 and 5 acres, the fine is set at ₹10,000.

For land less than 2 acres, a fine of ₹5,000 will be imposed.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) at Hazardous Levels

Currently, Delhi’s AQI has reached 362, with some areas recording levels above 400, falling into the “very poor” category. This toxic air is directly affecting children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. According to doctors, the risk of respiratory, heart, and lung diseases has significantly increased under these conditions.
