CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal/ Ujjain: A one-day workshop on the topic “Concept of Signification in Structuralism and Post-Structuralism: Theory and Practice” was organized at the English Studies Department of Vikram University, which saw enthusiastic participation from all students and research scholars of the department.

The chief speaker, Prof. Prashant Mishra, Principal of Swami Vivekanand Government Postgraduate College, Neemuch, inspired the students and researchers with his erudite lecture and elaborated on the fundamental concepts of Structuralism and Post-Structuralism. He explained that meaning in literature is not fixed; it continuously changes and evolves through the interaction between language, text, and reader.

Prof. Mishra clarified Ferdinand de Saussure’s concepts of the signifier and signified. He also explained Jacques Derrida’s theory of deconstruction, noting that every text contains multiple potential meanings that readers can interpret from various perspectives. In the same context, he presented Roland Barthes’ notions of readerly and writerly texts with examples and analyzed John Keats’ poetry from a post-structuralist perspective.

The workshop began with a welcome address by Head of Department, Anjana Pandey. Prof. B. K. Anjana inspired students by sharing insights from Prof. Mishra’s academic journey. The session was moderated by Miti Sharma, and vote of thanks was delivered by Priyanka Shaktawat.
