CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Lucknow. To promote indigenous cow breeds and increase milk production in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi government is providing financial assistance to livestock farmers under the Nand Baba Milk Mission. Under the Swadeshi Gau Samvardhan Yojana, eligible livestock farmers get a subsidy of up to 40 per cent of prescribed expenses for buying improved indigenous-breed cows from other states and bringing them to Uttar Pradesh. The maximum limit is stated to be ₹40,000 per cow.

Which cows are covered for assistance? The scheme aims to promote improved indigenous breeds such as Sahiwal, Gir and Tharparkar. Eligible livestock farmers who buy cows of these breeds in other states and bring them to Uttar Pradesh can avail the benefit. The assistance includes prescribed expenses such as transportation, insurance during transit and livestock insurance.

Under the scheme, subsidy is stated to be provided for the purchase of a maximum of two cows. However, actual assistance is determined according to eligibility, approved expenses and the scheme’s current rules. Therefore, it should not be treated as a fixed amount payable on every cow purchase.

Incentives are also provided for increasing milk production. The Mukhyamantri Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana is also operated under the Nand Baba Milk Mission. Under it, cattle rearers of improved indigenous-breed cows that meet prescribed milk production standards are given incentive amounts ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000. This assistance is also available, as per the prescribed rules, for a maximum of two eligible cows.

Official information is necessary before applying. Livestock farmers should check details of eligibility, required documents, application deadlines and current subsidy guidelines before applying. Details can be seen on the official portal of the Uttar Pradesh government’s Nand Baba Milk Mission: nandbabadugdhmission.up.gov.in.

Important: This scheme linked to assistance of up to ₹40,000 has already been in force. The available official Cabinet list does not confirm that fresh approval was given to this scheme in the meeting of October 27, 2026. Therefore, before describing it as a new Cabinet approval of today, confirmation of the relevant government order is necessary.
