CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A 24-year-old male patient had been suffering from a discharge problem near the hip joints on both sides of the lower back for the past year. Four months ago, he visited the Surgical Oncology OPD at AIIMS Bhopal with his parents, and after a thorough examination, it was discovered that he had a mass in the sacral region.

The patient reported that he had undergone surgery for the same issue at this hospital ten years ago, but the problem recurred in the past four months. After understanding the nature of the disease, Dr. Nilesh Srivastava, Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology, decided to remove the tumor.

The surgery was challenging because the tumor was located near nerves that typically control bladder and bowel functions, as well as sexual functions. Dr. Harish Kumar, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia, handled the anesthesia, and the surgical team included Dr. Nilesh Srivastava from Surgical Oncology and Dr. Sumit Raj from Neurosurgery. For the primary resection of the tumor and preservation of the necessary nerves, the reconstruction part was managed by Dr. Deepak Krishna through plastic surgery.

After the surgery, the patient was feeling well, and discharge was planned for the 13th day. There were no postoperative complications, such as nerve damage, that could affect the patient’s normal routine, such as urination, bowel movements, etc. The patient is now stable and has been discharged.
