CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: A 58-year-old gas-affected patient from Bhopal had been living with a kidney tumor ten times larger than normal for the past year—without even realizing it. Apart from mild swelling on the left side of the abdomen and slight pain, there were no major symptoms. It was only a month ago, when blood appeared in his urine, that he sought medical consultation at Bhopal Memorial Hospital (BMHRC). Investigations revealed the presence of a massive tumor.
Despite the risks, the cancer surgery team at BMHRC successfully removed the tumor. During surgery, it was discovered that the kidney had grown to 22×18 cm, and the tumor was stuck to the aorta and surrounding veins. There was a significant risk of vein rupture and heavy bleeding during the procedure, but the surgical team handled the operation with precision and expertise.
The patient’s condition became more complicated after he suffered a heart attack during his hospital stay. However, the team of expert doctors not only removed the tumor but also cleared the cancer that had spread to the abdominal lymph nodes. According to Dr. Sonveer Gautam, the patient had been consuming bidis and chewing tobacco for the past 15 years, which may have contributed to the disease. The patient has now vowed to quit tobacco and bidis permanently and is committed to spreading awareness among others.
This case sends a clear message: never ignore unusual symptoms in your body. Timely diagnosis and treatment can save lives.
