CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Sunny Deol’s Much-Awaited Film ‘Jaat’ Slows Down After Initial Buzz, Box Office Drops on Day 2

Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated film Jaat had been in the news for a long time. Fans were extremely excited about its release. When the movie hit theatres on April 10, a festive atmosphere could be seen outside cinemas. Some fans arrived in tractor trolleys, while others danced to the beat of dhols and drums. The opening was celebrated like a festival by Sunny Deol’s loyal fanbase.

However, the film’s first-day earnings did not quite meet expectations, leaving a hint of disappointment at the box office. Now, the second-day collection figures have also been revealed, indicating a mixed response from the audience. There is still hope for a surge in earnings over the weekend, especially in the North Belt, where Sunny Deol commands a strong fan following.

According to reports by Sacnilk, Sunny Deol’s Jaat earned only ₹7 crore on the second day, compared to ₹9.5 crore on its opening day — marking a drop in box office performance. So far, Jaat has collected ₹16.5 crore domestically, while its worldwide collection stands at just ₹13.25 crore, which is significantly below expectations. Despite the dip, Jaat has still become the second biggest opener of Sunny Deol’s career, right after his blockbuster hit Gadar 2.

The audience had high hopes from Jaat, but the film hasn’t quite managed to live up to those expectations so far. It failed to match the success of Gadar 2, and also couldn’t surpass the opening day collection of Salman Khan’s recent release Sikandar, which raked in a massive ₹26 crore on day one. In contrast, Jaat stalled at ₹9.5 crore — not even half of Sikandar’s opening.

Despite this, Jaat did spark massive excitement among fans, thanks to Sunny Deol’s action-packed image and the lingering popularity of Gadar. But the real challenge now is whether the film can sustain that excitement in the coming days.

Jaat is essentially an attempt to bring back Sunny Deol in his iconic ‘Angry Young Man’ avatar from the 1980s, this time in a South Indian mass-cinema style. The movie is especially tailored for audiences who enjoy high-voltage action, powerful dialogues, and hero-centric storytelling. The film has been directed by acclaimed South Indian filmmaker Gopichand Malineni, known for delivering big action hits in Telugu cinema. The cast also features strong performances by Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh in key roles.
