CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Delhi: Supreme Court defers hearing on ECI pleas, grants ten days for response

New Delhi. The hearing in the Supreme Court on petitions filed against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission of India (ECI) has been deferred. The court has given the concerned party an additional 10 days to file a response.

The arguments of the petitioners and the concerned parties may now be considered during the next hearing in the case. After the response is filed, the court will have an opportunity to clarify the legal aspects connected with the matter.

The petitions relating to the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission are significant in terms of questions linked to the electoral system and the role of the commission. However, an accurate account of the specific issues raised in the petitions and the court’s observations will be available only when detailed information is available. With the hearing deferred, no final decision has been taken in the matter. Attention will now be on the response of the concerned party and the Supreme Court’s forthcoming proceedings.
