CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The hearing scheduled in the Supreme Court on Tuesday in the matter of businesses operating in Bhopal’s residential areas has been deferred. The hearing will now be held later as a judge was on leave. However, no new date has been fixed yet.

There are 62,500 establishments in Bhopal’s residential areas, and a decision was expected today in connection with them. The Municipal Corporation has already submitted its action taken report. Residents, meanwhile, will present records describing the sealing action as false.

After the Supreme Court’s decision on August 5, the Municipal Corporation had issued notices across the city to establishments operating in residential areas.

The process of issuing notices continued for about 15 days. During this period, notices were issued to 8,084 establishments out of the listed 62,500. Later, 190 establishments were closed over three days.

When traders took to the streets in protest against the corporation’s sealing and notice action, the action was stopped. No action has been taken for the past 15 days.

On the other hand, residents are accusing responsible Municipal Corporation officials of bias. Petitioner Vivek Tripathi said objections have been raised to the corporation’s action taken report. “We have submitted our documents in the Supreme Court, stating that the corporation carried out false action. The establishments that were sealed have reopened,” he said.

The matter relates to a Supreme Court order. In the case concerning commercial use of residential buildings and illegal construction in Bhopal, the Supreme Court had held a hearing in the first week of August. The Supreme Court dealt a major setback to the Madhya Pradesh government by staying the action of the 10-member inquiry committee formed by the state government.

At the same time, it cancelled all relief orders, or stay orders, granted to shop operators by the Madhya Pradesh High Court in this matter. The Supreme Court made it clear that no interference of any kind would be accepted in the inquiry being conducted on its directions. The Municipal Corporation is required to submit a report on its action. Notices and sealing action were carried out in view of this. The report on action taken so far has also been submitted in court.
