CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Supreme Court has upheld the bail granted to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Deoghar treasury case linked to the multi-crore fodder scam, providing significant legal relief to the veteran politician. The apex court dismissed the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) plea challenging the Jharkhand High Court's 2019 order that had suspended Yadav's sentence and granted him bail. At the same time, the Supreme Court directed the Jharkhand High Court to expedite the hearing of the pending criminal appeals and make an effort to dispose of them within six months. The decision ensures that Yadav's bail remains in force while the appeals are heard on merit. The fodder scam, one of India's most high-profile corruption cases, involves the fraudulent withdrawal of funds from government treasuries in the undivided Bihar through fake livestock-related expenses. Lalu Prasad Yadav has faced multiple convictions in separate cases arising from the scam over the years. The Supreme Court's latest order balances the continuation of his bail with the need for a timely conclusion of the long-pending appeals. The ruling is expected to have both legal and political significance, as the outcome of the appeals could influence the future course of the decades-old corruption cases.
