CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: The Supreme Court has taken a stern view against the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the matter of encroachments not being removed from the land of a BEST bus station in Borivali, Mumbai. The court has issued a contempt notice to the BMC commissioner over non-compliance with its order. During the hearing, the court made strong remarks and warned that if the order is not complied with, the commissioner could be sent to jail and the court would also consider stopping the commissioner’s salary for November.

The case of encroachment on bus station land is linked to alleged encroachment on the land of the BEST bus station in Borivali. The court had earlier directed that this land be freed from encroachment. Despite this, after questions were raised over delays in action and compliance with the order, the matter reached the Supreme Court.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court asked the municipal administration why the directions issued earlier had not been complied with so far. The court made it clear that disregard of judicial orders would be taken seriously. In this sequence, a notice was issued to initiate contempt proceedings against the BMC commissioner.

The Supreme Court remained firm on compliance with its order. It warned that if the prescribed directions are not followed, strict action may be taken against the officer concerned. The remarks about stopping the November salary and sending the commissioner to jail were made in the same context. Attention will now be on the BMC administration’s response and the action to remove the encroachment.
