CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News and Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies, Bhopal: Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star batter Suresh Raina could once again be seen with the team in the yellow jersey. He has expressed a desire to join the franchise’s coaching setup ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. Raina revealed that he has spoken to the CSK management in this regard and that the decision now rests with the franchise.
Raina made the remarks during a conversation on former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube podcast. He said he is ready to work with the team in any role. According to him, his aim is to stay with the players and help the team win the trophy. Raina said his long experience in international cricket, the World Cup and the IPL taught him how to play under pressure and handle big matches. He wants to share the same experience with young players.
Raina, who was part of four title wins with Dhoni, has been among CSK’s most successful players. He played 11 seasons for the franchise and scored 4,687 runs in 176 matches. Under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy, he was part of the team’s title wins in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. For this reason, Chennai fans also know him as ‘Chinna Thala’.
Raina has also offered CSK three suggestions to strengthen the team during its rebuilding phase. According to him, the team needs a spinner who can take wickets in the powerplay, an effective left-arm fast bowler and an all-rounder who can bat in the lower order. He has also advocated giving new head coach Zaheer Khan and his support staff sufficient time. Raina wants the new coaching staff to get a term of at least three years so that trust and stability can develop within the team. At present, CSK has not made any official announcement regarding Raina’s return. The final decision on his coaching role, therefore, rests with the franchise management.
