Under the aegis of Headquarters Central Command, the Headquarters Madhya Bharat Area organized the second edition of the Surya Half Marathon in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. This dynamic event served as a platform to enhance the talent of citizens from Central India and Jabalpur, channeling their positive energy into fitness and community spirit.
The event’s chief guest, Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command, encouraged all participants, stating, “It is indeed a proud moment that such events showcase the Armed Forces’ dedication to fitness and inspire people from all walks of life to participate in these programs.” Over 10,000 participants from Jabalpur and across the country, spanning various age groups, enthusiastically took part in this marathon. Soldiers, fitness enthusiasts, NCC cadets, women, schoolchildren, citizens of Jabalpur, and specially-abled children demonstrated their commitment to health and fitness by voluntarily participating in the marathon.
The marathon featured different categories, starting at varying times from the Cobra Ground, flagged off by Lieutenant General Sengupta and Mrs. Sengupta, Regional President of AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association). Runners traversed the lush green city of Jabalpur, covering distances of 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 3 km. Podium finishers from each category were honored, and all participants received finisher medals and certificates to recognize their competitive spirit.
The event also included a breathtaking performance by the Indian Army’s Daredevils motorcycle stunt team, showcasing precision, bravery, and coordination that left the audience mesmerized. The Army’s microlight team performed aerial displays, showering flowers over runners and spectators, adding to the excitement. Additionally, an impressive array of weapons and equipment was displayed, inspiring civilians and offering them a glimpse into the Army’s strength. Facilities for physiotherapy and immediate medical assistance were also provided for participants in need.
The enthusiasm and energy displayed by the youth and citizens of Jabalpur and beyond echoed throughout the marathon route, with spectators cheering enthusiastically. The second edition of the Surya Half Marathon was a resounding success, attracting participants from all corners of the country. It offered runners an opportunity to appreciate the scenic beauty of the Jabalpur Cantonment and the vibrant city of Jabalpur.
