The death of 27-year-old suspended sub-inspector Sundaram Tiwari in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has left the police department in mourning. His body was found hanging on Wednesday morning at his rented house in Chuharpur locality under the Bannadevi police station area. Five days earlier, a video of him from the civil court premises had gone viral on social media, after which he was suspended and attached to the police lines.
Sundaram Tiwari was originally a resident of Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh and was living in Aligarh with his father, Shrichand Tiwari. His father said his son had been under considerable stress since the video went viral and the suspension action was taken. He had been mentally disturbed by the incident.
It was stated that on Wednesday morning, his father had gone out for some time. On returning, he found his son hanging in the room. After receiving information, senior police officers and a forensic team reached the spot. Police examined the scene and sent the body for post-mortem.
According to police officials, the cause of death has not yet been clearly established. The situation will become clear only after the post-mortem report and investigation. Police are examining all aspects, including the viral video, the suspension action and other circumstances.
