CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The four-day ‘Tagore Theatre Festival’ will be organised from September 6 to 9, 2026, under the joint aegis of Rabindranath Tagore University’s Tagore National School of Drama and the Vishwarang Foundation.
The festival will feature a range of theatre and cultural programmes, including theatre music, literary discussions and theatrical adaptations of contemporary stories. The objective of the festival is to take Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s creative and cultural vision to the new generation through theatre and literature.
The festival will open at Muktadhara on September 6
The Tagore Theatre Festival will begin on Sunday, September 6, at Muktadhara on the Rabindranath Tagore University campus. The programme will start with a musical presentation of ‘Gitanjali’ from 3 pm to 3.30 pm. Newly admitted students of the Tagore National School of Drama will present songs by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The music will be directed by Santosh Kaushik.
This will be followed, from 3.30 pm to 4.15 pm, by the staging of two stories by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, ‘Ek Raat/Antim Raat’ (‘One Night/The Last Night’), directed by Devendra Raj Ankur, former director of the National School of Drama and a senior theatre director. The presentation will be performed by second-year students of the Tagore National School of Drama.
Discussion to be held on ‘Tagore’s Cultural Contribution’
On the first day of the festival, a discussion on ‘Tagore’s Cultural Contribution’ will be held from 4.15 pm to 5 pm. The discussion will be chaired by noted poet-story writer, director of Vishwarang and Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, Santosh Choubey.
Writer Utpal Banerjee, author Jayant Singh Tomar and Tagore National School of Drama Director Avijit Solanki will participate as speakers. The discussion will be conducted by young storyteller and Vanmali Katha editor Kunal Singh.
Three stories by Santosh Choubey to be staged at Ravindra Bhavan
Over the next three days of the festival, on September 7, 8 and 9, theatrical adaptations of three stories by noted poet-story writer Santosh Choubey will be presented at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal. These presentations will be directed by senior theatre director Devendra Raj Ankur and staged by artists of Sambhav Natya Group, Delhi.
As part of the programme, ‘Garib Nawaz’ will be staged on September 7, ‘Unke Hisse Ka Prem Aur Lekhak Banane Wale’ on September 8, and ‘Satah Par Tairti Udaasi’ on September 9.
All three theatrical presentations will be held from 7 pm at Anjani Auditorium, Ravindra Bhavan, Bhopal.
