The resolution received support from the ruling DMK as well as opposition parties, including AIADMK and PMK, highlighting the broad political backing for Tamil Nadu’s stand.
The resolution reflects the state government’s longstanding argument that NEET places students from rural, economically weaker and state-board backgrounds at a disadvantage. The DMK has consistently opposed the examination, maintaining that admissions to medical colleges should consider the state’s education system and students’ academic performance.
The backing from AIADMK and PMK gives the resolution added political significance, demonstrating that opposition to NEET abolition is not confined to one party. The Assembly’s decision is expected to renew discussions between Tamil Nadu and the Union government over medical admissions and the examination system.
