CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Tamil Nadu Government informed the Madras High Court that it has no intention of seeking the judicial remand of DMK leader and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, who was detained in connection with a case over his alleged objectionable remarks made during a public rally. During the hearing of Udhayanidhi's anticipatory bail petition, the Advocate General told the court that the police would question him and subsequently release him on station bail, without seeking further custody.
Taking note of the government's submission, the Madras High Court directed the police to release Udhayanidhi after completing the necessary inquiry and instructed him to cooperate with the investigation whenever required. The court's intervention brought immediate relief to the DMK leader, whose detention had triggered protests by party workers across several parts of Tamil Nadu.
The controversy stems from remarks allegedly made by Udhayanidhi during a rally in Thanjavur, which led to the registration of a criminal case and demands for legal action by political opponents. The DMK has maintained that the remarks were taken out of context and has accused the ruling establishment of political vendetta. The case remains under investigation, and further legal proceedings will continue before the Madras High Court.
