CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tamil Nadu School Education Minister A. Rajmohan has said that the State government will continue with its two-language policy and maintain its decision not to provide land for establishing Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the State.
Rajmohan’s statement came a day after the Supreme Court asked Tamil Nadu to reconsider its position on Navodaya schools and comply with an earlier direction to identify land for setting up a school in every district. The court also granted the State additional time to hold discussions with the Centre.
The Minister said Tamil Nadu follows a two-language policy and would continue with its existing position. He also clarified that the State government is not opposed to Hindi or any other language, but maintains its stand on the language policy followed in government schools.
The dispute is linked to the three-language framework followed by Navodaya Vidyalayas, which has been a point of disagreement between the State and Centre. Tamil Nadu has argued that the proposed schools could conflict with its established education and language policy.
The Supreme Court has encouraged both sides to continue discussions and find a solution to the differences. The matter is scheduled for further hearing in December.
