CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News / Agencies: A target has been set to provide connections to 10 lakh homes as part of efforts to expand the piped natural gas (PNG) network in the country. Under this, there is a plan to make PNG connections mandatory in more than 20 cities. After PNG supply begins in the respective areas, consumers will have to surrender their LPG connections.

The objective of this initiative is to expand the pipeline-based gas system in domestic energy supply and connect more families with PNG facilities. In the cities and areas where the pipeline network will be made available, the focus will be on ensuring regular gas supply to households.

Along with making PNG connections mandatory, steps are also being taken to reduce dependence on LPG cylinders. Once supply begins, the condition requiring LPG connections to be surrendered will mean consumers have to change their domestic gas arrangement. However, detailed information on which more than 20 cities will be covered and what the process will be for surrendering connections will become clear on the basis of the relevant guidelines.
