CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tata Trusts has accepted N. Chandrasekaran’s decision not to seek another term as Chairman of Tata Sons and has initiated the process of identifying his successor. The development marks a major leadership transition for the Tata Group, one of India’s most influential business conglomerates. Chandrasekaran’s current term is scheduled to end on February 20, 2027.
The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust has passed a resolution to begin the process of forming a Selection Committee under the Articles of Association of Tata Sons. The committee will recommend a suitable candidate for appointment as the next chairman. Tata Trusts has said that it respects Chandrasekaran’s decision and acknowledged his contribution to the group during a period of significant transformation and expansion.
Chandrasekaran became Chairman of Tata Sons in February 2017 and has overseen the group through major strategic developments across aviation, automobiles, technology, electronics, semiconductors and digital businesses. His tenure also included the consolidation of Tata’s aviation interests and expansion into new high-growth sectors.
The succession process assumes added importance because Tata Trusts holds a controlling stake in Tata Sons and plays a decisive role in the selection mechanism. The decision to initiate the search provides a formal framework for ensuring continuity at the top of the group.
The appointment of the next chairman will be closely watched by investors, employees and business stakeholders. With the Tata Group pursuing several large and strategically important projects, maintaining stability, governance standards and long-term strategic continuity will be central to the leadership transition.
