CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: An awareness program under the “TB-Free India” campaign was organized at Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), Bhopal. The event was graced by Dr. Manish Sharma, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Bhopal district, as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering of doctors in the auditorium, Dr. Manish Sharma emphasized that under the National Health Mission (NHM), an intensive 100-day TB-Free India campaign is currently underway across 347 high-priority districts. He shared that with his 18 years of experience in the medical field, his focus remains on contributing to national programs aimed at TB elimination.

He stressed the importance of registering TB patients on the Nikshay portal to facilitate proper screening and treatment. Patients suffering from comorbid conditions like diabetes, cancer, or kidney disease should be screened for TB if symptoms appear. Private practitioners must also trace patients registered on the Nikshay portal and ensure they receive necessary healthcare.

Dr. Manisha Srivastava, Acting Director of BMHRC, stated that success in the TB-Free India mission is only possible through collective effort under the national program. Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions a TB-Free India, so do Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav prioritize the elimination of TB in the state. TB can affect any organ when immunity is compromised, hence timely diagnosis and full treatment are critical.

She mentioned that BMHRC supports over 3.5 lakh gas tragedy survivors and their dependents. Identifying and treating TB among them can significantly contribute to the national goal. Complete elimination of TB can only be achieved by ensuring full recovery of every single patient.
On this occasion, District TB Officer Dr. Pranjal Khare informed that WHO has set a global target to eliminate TB by 2030. However, the Indian government’s aim is to achieve this even sooner. Dr. Khare also gave a PowerPoint presentation covering TB symptoms, treatments, and safe diagnostic methods. Senior doctors, scientists, and officials of the institute were present at the program.
