CNN Central News & Networks / ITDC India ePress / ITDC News /Agencies/ Bhopal: The Education Department and UNICEF organised special training for teachers with the aim of improving children’s mental health in schools and identifying early signs of stress among them. Teachers from Bastar division and Dhamtari district took part in the three-day training held in Raipur. Its objective was to provide teachers with the information and skills needed to understand changes in children’s behaviour and emotions.

During the training, teachers were told how signs of mental stress may appear in children. They were advised to pay attention to symptoms such as sudden changes in behaviour, reduced interest in studies, remaining silent, irritability and distancing themselves from peers. Emphasis was also laid on helping teachers understand that such signs should not be ignored merely as indiscipline or negligence in studies.

The programme trained teachers in ways to establish sensitive communication with children, listen carefully to their problems and, when required, connect them with appropriate support. The initiative by the department and UNICEF is expected to help increase awareness about mental health in schools and ensure timely support for children.
