CNN Central News & Network-ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Tension escalated again at Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) on October 4 after members of the Bangiyo Hindu Jagaran Manch held a protest near the institute and attempted to enter the campus. Police stopped the protesters at the gates, leading to a scuffle between the demonstrators and security personnel. According to reports, several students and teachers inside the campus alleged that stones, bricks and water bottles were thrown into the premises from outside. Some students were reportedly injured, while police personnel were also hurt during the confrontation.

The protesters said their demonstration was against the September 27 clash at SRFTI and alleged that students had insulted Swami Vivekananda and Bharat Mata. The latest incident comes a week after violence erupted on the campus during an event organised by the RSS-linked Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP). Students had earlier written to Kolkata Police, the West Bengal government and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw seeking adequate security and opposing the proposed protest near the institute.

The September 27 incident had already led to multiple FIRs and a six-member Special Investigation Team being formed by the West Bengal government. Police said the situation was being closely monitored and additional personnel had been deployed to prevent further escalation. The continuing confrontation has raised concerns over the safety of students and staff at the premier film institute.
