CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The civic authorities in Thane have imposed a strict ban on vehicle washing activities at all service centres until 10 June, in response to the worsening water crisis in the region. The decision has been taken as part of emergency water conservation measures aimed at managing limited water resources during a period of high demand and reduced supply.

Officials stated that non-essential water usage must be immediately curtailed to ensure adequate supply for drinking and essential household needs. The restriction applies to all commercial vehicle washing units, garages, and service stations operating within municipal limits. Authorities have also warned of penalties for violations of the directive.

The water shortage situation in Thane has been attributed to insufficient rainfall, declining reservoir levels, and rising urban consumption. Civic bodies are closely monitoring the situation and may introduce additional restrictions if conditions do not improve.

Residents and businesses have been urged to cooperate with the administration and adopt water-saving practices. Public awareness campaigns are also being planned to encourage responsible water usage across households and commercial establishments.

The move highlights growing concerns over urban water sustainability and the need for long-term infrastructure planning to address recurring shortages in rapidly expanding metropolitan regions.
