CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: The Department of Microbiology at AIIMS celebrated its Foundation Day. On this occasion, Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Singh congratulated the department for its progress over the past year. Prof. Singh launched new initiatives such as the Anti-HBs-Titer campaign for health workers to protect against Hepatitis B virus and introduced the Cobas 5800 facility to detect viral load in HIV-positive patients. He also issued the Antibiogram for 2024 to facilitate antibiotic policies.
The event was attended by Dr. Aarti Kapil, retired Professor of Microbiology at AIIMS New Delhi and former President of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists. She emphasized the role of microbiologists in the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), highlighting the importance of rapid and accurate microbiological diagnosis, recent advances in the field, and building teamwork among clinicians to combat AMR.
During the program, a debate competition was held on the use of large language models for writing peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, featuring Assistant Professors Dr. Sameer Karakhur and Dr. Madhavan from the departments of Ophthalmology and Urology. At the end of the event, winners of the literary and art competitions held throughout the week were awarded.
