CNN Central News & Network–ITDC India Epress/ITDC News Bhopal: Actor John Abraham’s film The Diplomat has completed one week since its theatrical release, but it has failed to perform as expected at the box office. The makers had high hopes for the film, yet it has struggled from day one. The concerning part is that the film has not even recovered half of its budget, raising alarms for the producers. It now remains to be seen whether the film’s performance improves in the coming weeks or if it is officially declared a flop.
According to box office tracker Sacnilk, The Diplomat earned ₹1.35 crore on its seventh day (Thursday), bringing its total domestic box office collection to ₹19.10 crore. However, with a production budget of ₹50 crore, the film has not yet recovered even half of its cost. Directed by Shivam Nair, the film also features powerful performances from Sadia Khateeb, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi.
The Diplomat is based on the life of Indian diplomat JP Singh, portrayed by John Abraham. The story is inspired by a true incident involving Uzma Ahmed, a Delhi woman who befriends a Pakistani man online. She travels to Pakistan to meet him but ends up in a horrifying situation. The man forcibly marries her and holds her captive. In this dire situation, Indian diplomat JP Singh steps in to help. He puts his life at risk in a bold attempt to bring Uzma back to India. The film showcases a gripping narrative of Indo-Pak relations filled with themes of love, trust, and courage.
